    OPERATIONS LEAD ENGINEER

    Objective This position responsible headingoperations for smooth running of plant during an assigned shift within specified parameters given by the OEMs to meet dispatch instructions in order to achieve the goal without any safety hazards as set by the organization management within the limits of the organization code of ethics. The Operations Lead Engineerwill be:
    • Accountable for ensuring the safe operation of the power station to meet the OMCO’s objectives through the generation targets for their duty shift whilst safeguarding plant availability, reliability and environmental performance.
    • Accountable for maintaining a proactive approach to analyse plant technical problems, find solutions and to challenge their shift team members to maintain high standards of plant operations achievement, promoting a fair, professional and disciplined approach
    • Accountable for prioritising safety related issues, ensuring their shift team gives appropriate importance to Company policies and practices in health and safety management.
    • Accountable for ensuring that important operational, safety and management information is effectively communicated to the appropriate members of their shift team.
    • Authorised for managing and coordinating their team’s training and development plans and appraisal schemes, setting targets and objectives, ensuring training meets the needs of the Company business.
    • Authorised for providing authoritative advice on operational technical, safety and environmental matters to the Station Manager and other members of the Management Team as required.
    • Authorised for contributing to the preparation of technical and budgetary plans and actively control and monitor their application within the Operations Department.
    • When so authorised, accountable for carrying out the duties of the Control and Senior Authorised Person as defined in the Company Safety Rules.
    • Accountable for ensuring proper operational communications are maintained with NEPCO and other external contacts as required.
    • Accountable for consistent implementation of company’s policy and procedure as stated in station management instructions.
    • Responsible for making a positive personal contribution to safety, security and good housekeeping.
    • Responsible for undertaking any additional relevant duties and responsibilities within the roles and capabilities.
    Skills Required (Knowledge and Skills)
    • Plan production/ instruction from Operations Manager/ Dy.Operations Manager in view of changed circumstances (availability/ non-availability of certain equipment’s) & provide reasons for deviation from plans to Performance dept. Carry out manpower planning for all areas to keep all equipment’s manned.
    • Plan main plant start up and shut down. Monitor initial filling of boiler and deaerator. Check all MS stop/control valves and make sure all the equipment is ready. Give instructions to the desk operator for sequential operation of the equipments.
    • Maintain registers for leaves/off times. Allocate duties among team members. Check the running of the plant according to Standard Operation Procedures laid out.
    • Resolve local issues and escalate the bigger issues. Complete the target in allocate time. Make shift report at the end of the shift and send shift reports for MIS.
    • Record and report divergences and faults and take action to correct defects and/or abnormalities
    • Handle emergency during shift (i.e black out, tripping of any equipment related to load reduction or tripping of the plant) and communicate with all departments for attending the defect in time. Facilitate smooth handover of the shift to the next shift. Monitor condition of all equipment and maintain records of the same. Monitor environment norms and emission norms.
    • Review and assess work packs (method statements, risk assessments etc) and prepare Safety Documents in accordance with work planning procedures
    • Coordination during overhauling and re-commissioning.
    • Experience with Maximo.
    • Over all responsibility of that Shift’s Operation Management, Fuel Management, Resource management, preparation of department HSSE and document / compliance management.
    Qualifications Required:
    • Bachelors Degree in Mechanical/ Electrical Engineering.
    • 10+ years of experience in Shift Operations of solid fuel fired power plants with a capacity of more than 200MW. Experience in Operation of CFBC Boilers will be added advantage.
    • Direct hands on experience in managing Shift operations.
    • Fluent in English with strong oral and written communication skills
    • Demonstrated high levels of organization, written/verbal communication and documentation skills
    • Familiar with the local, international related standards and specifications
    • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
