  • Description:
    The Control Room Operator is responsible for the continuous control and monitoring of all activities associated with the plant and their ancillaries in a safe and efficient manner. Role Summary The Control Room Operator will:
    • Responsible for smooth, efficient and economic operation of Boiler, Turbine & Generator and auxiliaries of the plant from desk and keep all the parameters within permissible limits on a shift by shift basis within the confines of the operating procedure and as per the Operation Lead/SIC instruction.
    • Responsible for maintaining/ improving Plant Parameters as per approved operation plan like Heat Rate /Aux. Power / PLF/ SOC, etc.
    • Responsible for line up of the equipment as per start up checklists, safe Plant Operation, Start up, Shut down, Emergency Handling, Troubleshooting etc. Commissioning activities after long shutdown and DCS Operations from main control room along as well as instructing field operators for Boiler, Turbine Generator & its auxiliaries and local operations.
    • Manage emergencies in the Plant and take timely action in coordination with Asst Control Room Operators/field operators & Operation Lead/SIC to avoid failures and improve availability and reliability.
    • Manage and lead Asst Control Room Operators/field operators in operations in the shift.
    • Ensure that all shift activities/events and important parameters are logged in and respond to any deviations/abnormalities. Raise defect notifications in Maximo ERP system for correcting abnormalities.
    • Guide and advice Asst Control Room Operators for prompt communication for appropriate instructions to Field operators / Operators / maintenance personnel and communicate the status to Operation Lead/SIC.
    • Check all operation related activities including Log Books of control room, field engineer, Check List, Shift Routines (Trial run, Equipment changeover and joint checking as per schedule), etc.
    • Overall monitoring of various systems or associated equipment for plant operation and evaluate the performance of individual equipment.
    • System healthiness i.e. ensure all the control loops are in AUTO mode.
    • Monitor water & steam chemistry through SWAS to avoid deterioration in condenser, Boiler Feed & Steam quality inorder to avoid generation loss and for maintaining equipment healthiness.
    • Assist in carrying out process isolation and Electrical system isolation & normalization in line with LOTO procedure.
    • Ensure correct isolation and normalization of lines/equipment for issuing or cancelling PTW.
    • Contribute in developing new standard operating procedures.
    • Identification of system defects, leakages or valve passing at early stages & logging in Maximo.
    • Be the system owner of the assigned areas and look after its housekeeping.
    • Comply with the safety & environmental procedures for power plant.
    • Ensure plant Fire fighting availability/Healthiness.
    • Maintain conducive environment with maintenance department & coordinate them in solving the problems.
    • To notify improvement ideas in areas of plant’s safety and efficiency.
    • When so authorized, carry out the activities of an Authorized or Senior Authorized Person as defined in the Safety Rules.
    • Train and develop Desk Engineers and Field Engineers for better performance.
    • Deliver knowledge sharing sessions as required.
    • Take a pro-active approach to safety management and actively participate in the Company safety procedures and practices.
    • Undertake any additional relevant duties & responsibilities within their capabilities as directed and defined by the Operation Lead/SIC.
    • Report Near Miss, potential risks by detailing them in the HIRA register.
    • Train and develop Field Engineers for better performance.
    • Contribute in developing new standard operating procedures.
    Candidates for this position should possess minimum qualifications and competencies as follows:
    1. Minimum Graduate Engineering Degree in Mech/Electrical stream from reputed University.
    2. Having min 6 -10 years of experience as Control Room Operator, Operation Engineer or Operation Supervisor in a solid fuel fired power plant. Experience in CFBC boiler will be added advantage.
    3. Having hands on experience in operating DCS. Having experience in operating SIEMENS DCS will be an added advantage however operation experience in operating other DCS will also be considered.
    4. High motivation, self starter and capable to work under pressure, good communication skills, analytical and logical reasoning.
    5. Be able to read and speak English fluently.
