  • Description:
    Main Purpose/Job Summary Produce and support creative and engaging news and Programmes material to an exceptionally high standard and assist in planning next day or longer-term coverage news programmes. To work on the assignment desk, plan daily news coverage, commissioning TV and digital content from correspondents in the field. Main Duties & Responsibilities
    • Research, Write, translate and adapt items, news stories or programme material and to edit packages at the desktop
    • To keep up to date with main news stories and undertake background research and checking on factual information
    • To liaise closely with team colleagues and all contributors, reporters, stringers and when commissioning material, to provide effective guidance and support
    • Flexible and prepared to take on any role required by the Editor or SBJ in response to the needs of the Newsroom
    • To source contributors and interviewees when required as well as other sources of material as appropriate and to the required specification
    • Occasional deployment in the field for specific projects requiring technical expertise and editorial judgement
    • Maintain an accurate, comprehensive and up to date version of diaries and contacts
    • Manage a moving story, amending and updating material as required to build compelling and engaging news material
    • Present live or recorded TV slots and segments as required
    • Liaise with correspondents and producers, gathering information and advice on stories and coverage
    • Provide ideas and suggestions for programmes, stories and attend pre programme and planning meetings when required
    Required Skill Set & Experience:
    • Provides and demonstrates strategic, conceptual and analytical skills including a solid understanding of Journalistic and Editorial knowledge and judgement.
    • Able to work with minimum supervision within a fast paced environment and achieve objectives
    • Proven track record of delivering what is required within tight deadlines and to an exceptionally good standard
    • Works with precision, accuracy and applies a high attention to detail
    • Effective communications and presentation skills using multimedia tools
    • Demonstrates flexibility by adapting and working effectively in a variety of situations whilst appreciating different and opposing perspectives and able to adapt own style and approach to deal with differing situations
    • Approachable manner that encourages positive interaction with colleague, teams and others
    • Proven Analytical, conceptual and problem-solving skills.
    • A full command and up to date knowledge ofspoken and written modern standard Arabic language of a high standard.
    • Able to write, adapt and translate with accuracy, clarity and style as appropriate to different audience groups and media groups and articulate and able to communicate effectively at a professional broadcasting standard.
    • Up to date knowledge of regional and international news
    • Appreciates and understands the benefits and importance of social media and digital technologies
    • Excellent understanding of editorial guidelines and able to identify trends and potential issues
    • Dealing with live ‘breaking news’ and developing ideas resulting in turning into successful creative programme with speed
    • Able to demonstrate a very good understanding of news and current affairs programmes and the types of audiences they attract
    • Successful track record of conveying programme ideas to the Editors and contributing to the planning process
    • A good understanding of the Company’s legal obligations when developing news stories for broadcasting and publications
    • Able to travel internationally when required
    • Ability to demonstrate a courteous, professional work ethic
    • A collaborative team member who encourages positive interactions and builds relationships
    • Demonstrate experience as an effective and successful Journalist with an expansive knowledge of news and current events
    • Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.
    • Experience and thorough understanding of the Company’s legal obligations, including the Ofcom Code.
    • Previously worked in a multilinqual, Arabic and English environment.
    Education/Qualification Degree in journalism or equivalent
